The Baby Lock Aurora is a compact sewing and embroidery machine for anyone starting out in embroidery. It stitches names, monograms and small designs up to 4" x 4", takes designs from your computer over Wi-Fi, and sews everyday projects with 191 built-in stitches. At about 15 pounds, it's easy to carry to classes and retreats.
Why buy from Imagine Sewing & Vacuum
- Authorized Baby Lock dealer. Only authorized retailers can issue Baby Lock warranties, so your Aurora is covered by Baby Lock's 25-year limited warranty.
- Sewing specialists since 1922. We've helped sewists and embroiderers choose the right machine for more than a century.
- Factory-trained technicians. The people who service Baby Lock machines can help with setup, hooping and Wi-Fi design transfer questions, before and after you buy.
- Free shipping on orders over $299. This machine qualifies.
An easy first step into embroidery
- Designs and lettering built in. 303 embroidery designs, 140 frame patterns and 13 fonts for names and monograms give you projects from day one.
- Designs without a cable. Built-in Wi-Fi works with Baby Lock's free Design Database Transfer software for Windows. You can also load .pes, .phc and .dst files from a USB flash drive.
- Edit before you stitch. On the color touchscreen, resize, rotate, mirror and move designs, add lettering, and change thread colors.
- Clean color changes. The Aurora cuts the thread at the end of each color and embroiders at up to 400 stitches per minute.
- A real sewing machine too. 191 stitches, up to 7 mm wide, include buttonholes, blind hems, overcasting and decorative stitches.
- Push-button control. One-touch buttons handle start/stop, reverse, needle up/down and the thread cutter, and the advanced needle threader threads the needle in a few motions.
Is the Aurora right for you?
It's the best fit if you're new to embroidery and want to personalize towels, baby gifts and quilt labels, while keeping one machine for everyday sewing. It also works well as a lightweight retreat machine.
Good to know before you buy: the largest embroidery area is 4" x 4", and one 4" x 4" hoop is included. The Aurora doesn't trim jump stitches within a color, so you clip those by hand. It has no knee lifter, and Baby Lock doesn't list a straight-stitch needle plate for it. Design Database Transfer runs on Windows only.
- Want a 5" x 7" field and automatic jump-stitch trimming? The Baby Lock Bloom adds a 5" x 12" multi-position hoop, a knee lifter and 251 stitches.
- Planning quilt blocks or jacket backs? The Baby Lock Vesta embroiders up to 6-1/4" x 10-1/4" and adds automatic presser foot lift and pivoting.
- Already own a sewing machine you love? The Baby Lock Flare is embroidery-only, with a 6-1/4" x 10-1/4" field and 293 built-in designs.
Expert tip
"The Aurora cuts the thread at every color change, but it doesn't trim the jump threads that travel between parts of a design. When it stops for the next color, clip those threads close to the fabric before you start again, so the next color doesn't stitch over them. Use the included 60-weight embroidery bobbin thread, and always hoop a stabilizer under your fabric."

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the Baby Lock Aurora and the Bloom?
The Bloom embroiders up to 5" x 7" instead of 4" x 4", runs at 650 instead of 400 stitches per minute, and trims jump stitches. It also adds a 5" x 12" multi-position hoop and a knee lifter. The Aurora is about 5 pounds lighter.
Can the Aurora embroider designs larger than 4" x 4"?
No. Every design, or each section of one, must fit in 4" x 4". Baby Lock's optional multi-position frame (EF71) covers about 4" x 6-7/10" without re-hooping, in 4" x 4" sections.
Does the Aurora work with a Mac or a phone app?
Design Database Transfer is free but runs on Windows 8.1, 10 and 11 only. Baby Lock doesn't list a phone or tablet app for the Aurora. On a Mac, copy your designs to a USB flash drive.
Is the Aurora good for beginners?
Yes. Push buttons, a built-in operational guide and the advanced needle threader make it easy to learn, and the 4" x 4" hoop is a simple size to practice hooping.
Can I quilt on the Aurora?
For small projects and quilt labels, yes. It has a drop feed lever for free-motion work, and Baby Lock lists a walking foot (BLG-WF) and a free-motion open-toe foot as optional accessories. Large quilts need a machine with more space to the right of the needle.
