Is the Flare right for you?

Good to know before you buy: the Flare doesn't sew. It has one needle, so you rethread for every color in a design. There's no cap frame, sleeve frame or camera. It reads .pes, .phc and .dst files only. Design Database Transfer runs on Windows only; Mac users move designs with a USB flash drive.

Expert tip

"If the Flare leaves jump threads you still have to clip, lower the jump stitch trim length in the settings so it trims shorter jumps. Baby Lock recommends a 75/11 ball point needle for lettering while trimming is on. For designs with lots of trims, set the length higher instead, and you'll get fewer thread tails on the back."

Does the Baby Lock Flare sew?

No. The Flare is embroidery only, with an embroidery foot and no sewing stitches.

What's the difference between the Flare and the Vesta?

Baby Lock lists a 6-1/4" x 10-1/4" field, 293 designs, 14 fonts and 850 stitches per minute for both machines. The Vesta also sews. The Flare costs less if you already own a sewing machine.

Can I send designs to the Flare from a Mac?

Design Database Transfer runs on Windows only, so on a Mac the simplest route is a USB flash drive. Copy your .pes, .phc or .dst files to it and plug it into the Flare.

Can the Flare embroider hats or sleeves?

Not finished caps. It's a flatbed machine with no cap or sleeve frame. You can embroider pieces before you sew them together, or choose a multi-needle machine like the Baby Lock Array for caps.

What other hoops fit the Flare?

Baby Lock lists optional 4" x 4", 1" x 2-1/2" and 6" x 6" hoops, a 7" x 4" border frame and a 5" x 7" magnetic frame.
