Is the Quartz 29 right for you?

It's the best fit if you're new to embroidery or want to add monograms and small designs to garments, gifts and home decor, and you like working from a phone and the cloud.

Good to know before you buy: the largest embroidery area is 170 x 100 mm (about 6.7" x 3.9"), so large designs need a bigger machine. It loads only .VP3 embroidery files. Thread tension is set with a dial, and there are 165 mm (6.5") to the right of the needle. The CREATIVATE Library needs a paid subscription, though the cloud storage and app don't.

• Need larger designs? The Husqvarna Viking Designer Topaz 40 embroiders up to 240 x 150 mm, reads many file formats and adds the Exclusive SENSOR SYSTEM, but has no Wi-Fi.
• Want much larger hoops and more room? The Husqvarna Viking Designer Sapphire 85 takes hoops up to 360 x 350 mm and has 250 mm of sewing space.
• Only need to sew? The Husqvarna Opal 690Q gives you 200 mm of space, 208 stitches and the Exclusive SENSOR SYSTEM.

"The Quartz 29 reads only .VP3 files, so when you buy designs online, download the VP3 version. Before you slide on the embroidery unit, take off the accessory tray and clear the space around the machine. The arm calibrates as soon as you attach it, and it needs room to move."

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the Designer Quartz 29 and the Topaz 40?

The Quartz 29 has Wi-Fi, a 7" touch screen, 250 stitches and 180 designs, with a 170 x 100 mm embroidery area. The Topaz 40 embroiders larger designs, up to 240 x 150 mm, reads many file formats and has the Exclusive SENSOR SYSTEM, but it has no Wi-Fi and a 3.5" screen.

Does the Quartz 29 have Wi-Fi?

Yes. It connects to CREATIVATE, which Husqvarna Viking used to call mySewnet. You get the on-screen design library (subscription), the phone app, free 100 MB cloud storage and wireless firmware updates. The machine's screens may still say mySewnet.

Do I need a subscription?

Only for the CREATIVATE Library of designs. The built-in designs, fonts, app and cloud storage work without one, and new subscribers get a 30-day free trial.

What embroidery files can it use?

Only .VP3, Husqvarna Viking's own format. Choose the VP3 version when you buy or download designs.
