Husqvarna Viking Opal 690Q Sewing and Quilting Machine

The Husqvarna Viking Opal 690Q is the quilting model of the Opal series, for sewists who piece and quilt as much as they sew garments. The Exclusive Sensor System senses fabric thickness as you sew, so layers feed evenly from a single cotton to a quilt sandwich. You get 208 stitches, 8 inches of space to the right of the needle and three quilting feet in the box.
Why buy from Imagine Sewing & Vacuum
- Authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer. Husqvarna Viking's warranty covers machines bought from authorized dealers, so your Opal 690Q is covered by its 20-year limited warranty.
- Sewing specialists since 1922. We've helped sewists and quilters choose the right machine for more than a century.
- Factory-trained technicians. The people who service Husqvarna Viking machines can help with setup, free-motion and tension questions, before and after you buy.
- Free shipping on orders over $299. This machine qualifies.
Made for piecing and quilting
- Even feeding on any thickness. The Exclusive Sensor System continuously senses the fabric and adjusts presser foot pressure, so bulky seams and quilt layers move smoothly.
- Hands stay on the quilt. Sensor Foot Lift raises and lowers the presser foot with buttons, and the foot lifts to a pivot position when you stop with the needle down.
- Quilting feet included. Piecing Foot P marks 1/4" and 1/8" pivot points, the Clear Open Toe Foot shows your appliqué edge, and Foot R handles free-motion.
- Room for the quilt. 8 inches (200 mm) of space to the right of the needle gives a rolled quilt room to move.
- Less trimming. The automatic thread cutter cuts the top and bobbin threads, and the bobbin thread sensor stops the machine before the bobbin runs out.
- Tension handled. Electronic self-adjusting tension and the Exclusive SEWING ADVISOR feature set up each fabric and technique.
- Quilt stitches and tapering. Choose from 208 stitches, including a hand-look quilting stitch, and taper decorative stitches to a point at corners.
- Your settings saved. 12 My Stitches memories hold up to 240 stitches, and 4 fonts let you label a finished quilt.
Is the Opal 690Q right for you?
It's the best fit if you piece and quilt regularly and want sensor-controlled feeding and foot lift in an easy-to-learn machine.
Good to know before you buy: the 3-inch touchscreen is monochrome. The space to the right of the needle is 8 inches, not the 10 inches of larger quilting machines. There's no knee lifter, no automatic feed teeth drop and no embroidery. A walking foot and extension table are sold separately.
- Sewing more garments than quilts? The Husqvarna Viking Opal 670 has the same touchscreen, cutter and tension, without the Sensor System and quilting feet.
- Want 10 inches of space? The Husqvarna Viking Sapphire 930 adds 2 inches of room, 20 memories and a 4-level sensor foot lift.
- Want a color touchscreen and wide side-motion stitches? The Husqvarna Brilliance 75Q has 10 inches of space and stitches up to 54 mm wide.
- Want to embroider your quilt labels? The Husqvarna Viking Designer Topaz 40 adds an embroidery unit with hoops up to 240 x 150 mm.
Expert tip
"When you quilt through batting, select Woven Heavy in the SEWING ADVISOR. Husqvarna Viking lists quilt layers with batting under that setting, so the machine adjusts for the thickness. For free-motion, snap on Foot R, lower the feed teeth and choose Free Motion Floating in the SET menu. Practice on a scrap sandwich at a steady medium speed before you start on the quilt."

Frequently asked questions
What does the Q in Opal 690Q mean?
It marks the quilting model. Compared with the Opal 670, the 690Q adds the Exclusive Sensor System, decorative tapering, 8 more stitches, 4 more memories and the 1/4" piecing, clear open toe and free-motion feet.
What is the Exclusive Sensor System?
The presser foot senses fabric thickness and adjusts its pressure as you sew, and buttons raise and lower the foot, so there's no lever to reach for.
Can I free-motion quilt on the Opal 690Q?
Yes. Lower the feed teeth, attach the included Embroidery/Darning Foot R and select Free Motion Floating. All stitches can be sewn in free-motion mode.
Is the Opal 690Q good for quilting large quilts?
It handles them, and an extension table helps carry the weight. If you often quilt king-size quilts, a 10-inch machine such as the Sapphire 930 gives you more room.
Does it fit a walking foot?
Husqvarna Viking's accessory catalog lists its Interchangeable Dual Feed foot for this machine's accessory group. Ask us to confirm the part before you order.
