This is Oreck's fan housing with swivel assembly, part 09-83223-01, for the Oreck Magnesium LW1500 (Magnesium RS). It's an internal repair part in the base, where the dirt tube plugs in and the swivel joint lets the handle turn. Installing it is a repair job, and our technicians do this work.
Fits these Oreck vacuums
- Oreck Magnesium LW1500 (Magnesium RS, swivel models)
Not for the Magnesium LW100. Oreck's parts list for the LW100 (Magnesium SP) shows a different fan housing assembly, part 09-83222-01.
Not sure which Magnesium you have? Check the model number on the vacuum's label. LW1500 models have the swivel handle. Send us the model and serial number and we'll confirm the part before you order.
What it does
- Connects the base to the handle. The dirt tube pulls straight up out of the fan housing, so the housing is the airflow path from the base to the bag.
- Carries the swivel joint. On swivel models, the rear fascia snaps onto the fan housing, and the swivel joint halves fasten to it with two joint screws.
- Seals the airflow. Oreck's service manual uses rope gaskets, a felt seal and grease at the joint, so a worn or cracked housing can leak suction.

What's in the box
- 1 Oreck fan housing with swivel assembly, part 09-83223-01
Oreck lists the motor, belt and seals as separate parts, so they aren't part of this assembly.
Good to know
- This is a repair job. Oreck's service manual has you take the base apart, remove the motor top cover and inlet duct, and regrease the swivel joint. Our technicians repair Oreck vacuums and do this work.
- Check the joint first. Oreck's tune-up for swivel models includes inspecting the joint and fan housing neck for wear before replacing parts.
Expert tip
"A loose, wobbly swivel or a whistle near the base often points to worn joint seals rather than a broken housing. Have the joint, gaskets and grease checked first. If the housing itself is cracked, replacing it restores the seal and the suction."
