The Baby Lock Brilliant is a computerized sewing machine for people who sew a bit of everything: garments, bags, home decor and quilts. It gives you 190 built-in stitches, an automatic thread cutter, a hands-free knee lift and 14 presser feet, including a walking foot, so you can start most projects without buying extra feet.

Why buy from Imagine Sewing & Vacuum

  • Authorized Baby Lock dealer. Only authorized retailers can issue Baby Lock warranties, so your Brilliant is covered by Baby Lock's 25-year limited warranty.
  • Sewing specialists since 1922. We've helped sewists and quilters choose the right machine for more than a century.
  • Factory-trained technicians. The people who service Baby Lock machines can help with setup, walking foot and decorative stitch questions, before and after you buy.
  • Free shipping on orders over $299. This machine qualifies.

Ready for garments, home decor and quilts

  • A stitch for every job. 190 stitches include 71 utility stitches, 10 one-step buttonhole styles, decorative, satin and cross stitches, and 5 uppercase alphabets for labels and monograms.
  • 14 feet in the box. You get a walking foot for quilt layers, leather and vinyl, plus a 1/4" quilting foot, free-motion quilting foot, nonstick foot, adjustable zipper/piping foot and open toe foot.
  • Both hands stay on the fabric. The detachable knee lift raises the presser foot, and programmable needle up/down stops the needle in the fabric so you can pivot at corners.
  • Fewer trips to the scissors. One button cuts both the upper and bobbin threads, and the start/stop button lets you sew without the foot pedal.
  • Speed you can set. The speed slide limits the top speed, up to 850 stitches per minute, and can switch to controlling stitch width for tapered satin stitches.
  • Make stitches your own. Combine, mirror, repeat or elongate decorative and letter stitches, then save them in memory pockets.
  • Quick to set up. The quick-set drop-in bobbin and Baby Lock's advanced needle threader get you sewing in a few steps.
  • Free-motion ready. Drop the feed dogs and attach the included free-motion quilting foot to quilt smaller projects in any direction.

Is the Brilliant right for you?

It's the best fit if you sew garments, bags and home decor, quilt now and then, and want a computerized machine with plenty of stitches and a full set of feet.

Good to know before you buy: the Brilliant sews but doesn't embroider. Its 8.3 inches of space is smaller than the 12 inches on Baby Lock's quilting machines, so large quilts take more rolling. It has one LED light, manual thread tension, uppercase-only alphabets and no stitch regulation.

  • Quilting large quilts most of the time? The Baby Lock Allegro gives you 12 inches of space, 200 stitches and up to 1,000 stitches per minute.
  • Want the same 8.3-inch space for less? The Baby Lock Presto 2 has 100 stitches and an automatic thread cutter, but 7 feet and no knee lift.
  • Prefer simple dial controls for quilting? The Baby Lock Jazz II has 12 inches of space and 28 stitches selected with a dial.
  • Want an even bigger stitch library? The Baby Lock Soprano has 300 stitches and 16 feet, with the same 8.3 inches of space.

Expert tip

"The Brilliant's walking foot works well with a few habits. Thread the needle before you attach it, because the needle threader can't be used with the walking foot on. Sew between slow and medium on the speed slide, and pick straight or zigzag stitches that tie off with reinforcement stitches, since the walking foot can't sew in reverse. For quilting, Baby Lock recommends a 90/14 needle."

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the Baby Lock Brilliant and the Presto 2?

Both have 8.3 inches of space, a top speed of 850 stitches per minute and an automatic thread cutter. The Brilliant adds 90 more stitches, a knee lift, a larger screen and 14 feet instead of 7, including a walking foot.

Does the Brilliant come with a walking foot?

Yes. It's one of the 14 included feet, along with 1/4" quilting and free-motion quilting feet.

Can the Brilliant embroider?

No. It's a sewing machine only. Its decorative stitches and 5 alphabets add names and borders, but it doesn't use embroidery hoops or designs.

Is the Brilliant good for quilting?

Yes, for piecing and smaller quilts. It includes walking, 1/4" and free-motion feet and drops its feed dogs. For bed-size quilts, the 12-inch Allegro or Jazz II gives the quilt more room.

What's the difference between the Brilliant and the Soprano?

Both have 8.3 inches of space and sew up to 850 stitches per minute. The Soprano has 300 stitches and 16 feet, compared with 190 stitches and 14 feet on the Brilliant.
