Computerized features in a portable machine

• 80 stitches, chosen by number. 50 utility and 30 decorative stitches. The LCD screen shows the stitch, its width and length, and which presser foot to use.
• Sew without the foot pedal. The start/stop button and speed control slider let you sew long seams at a steady pace.
• Needle up/down at a touch. Stop with the needle down to pivot at corners and around appliqué.
• Automatic needle threader. Thread the needle in a few quick motions.
• Wider stitches. Stitches go up to 7 mm wide, compared with 5 mm on the Joy and Zeal.
• Free-motion and free arm. Flip a switch to lower the feed dogs for free-motion quilting, or slide off the flatbed to hem sleeves and pant legs.

Good to know before you buy: the Jubilant has 6-1/4 inches of space to the right of the needle, fine for piecing and small quilts but tight for large ones. It has a manual thread cutter, no knee lift and no lettering. The walking foot and extension table are sold separately.

Expert tip

"When a seam starts on thick fabric like denim or a quilt sandwich, zigzag foot J can tilt and the fabric won't feed. Hold the foot level, push in the black button on the left side of the foot, then lower the presser foot lever. If it still tilts, slip a folded scrap of the same thickness under the back of the foot to start the seam."

What's the difference between the Jubilant and the Brilliant?

The Brilliant adds 110 more stitches, 5 lettering fonts, 10 one-step buttonholes, an automatic thread cutter, a knee lift and an included walking foot. The Jubilant costs less and is easier to carry, at 14.4 pounds to the Brilliant's 21.2.

Can I quilt with the Jubilant?

Yes. It pieces quilt tops, and drop feed lets you free-motion quilt. It's most comfortable on table runners, wall hangings and baby quilts.

Does the Jubilant come with a walking foot?

No. Baby Lock's BLG-WF walking foot and BL80B-ET extension table are optional accessories.

Can I sew without the foot controller?
