Serging and cover stitch in one machine

• Air-threaded loopers. Insert the thread end into a port and press Push to Thread Loopers. ExtraordinAir threading carries it through the upper, lower and chain loopers, all at once or one at a time.
• Overlock stitches without tension dials. Automatic Thread Delivery feeds the right amount of thread for every overlock stitch, whatever the fabric or thread.
• Cover stitch hems for knits. Sew narrow cover stitch on the left or right (3 mm), wide and triple cover stitch (6 mm), and chain stitch in three positions.
• Combination stitches. Pair a chain or cover stitch with an overlock stitch for 5-thread safety stitches and 6-, 7- and 8-thread stitches up to 16 mm wide.
• Ready for binders and hemmers. The included flat sewing table has two sets of positioning screws for attachments such as Baby Lock's knit/woven bias binders.
• Both hands on the fabric. The knee lifter raises the presser foot while you guide the work, and the foot lifts up to 6 mm for thick layers.

Is the Splendor right for you?

Good to know before you buy: the Splendor air-threads the loopers only; you thread the five needles with the included manual needle threader. Automatic Thread Delivery covers overlock stitches, while chain and cover stitches use two tension dials. It has no Wave Stitch and no speed slider, and only the standard presser foot is included.

Expert tip

"When you switch back from cover stitch to serging, check the upper looper positioning knob first. If it's still on Down, the overlock stitch won't form and the upper looper won't air-thread. Going the other way, turn the stitch width dial to its lowest setting so the cover stitch table sits flat against the needle plate. For cover stitch hems, start with the needle dial at 5 and the looper dial between 0 and 2."

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the Baby Lock Splendor and the Triumph?

Both are 8-thread, 5-needle serger and cover stitch machines with Automatic Thread Delivery and a knee lifter. The Triumph also air-threads its needles and adds the Wave Stitch (87 combinations), a speed slider, six LED lights and 5 inches of space. The Splendor has 60 combinations, four LED lights, 2 inches of space and an included trim bin.

Does the Splendor thread the needles automatically?

No. Air threading covers the three loopers. You thread the needles with the included manual threader.

Does the Splendor have the Wave Stitch?

No. Baby Lock's serger comparison chart notes that the Splendor doesn't include it. The Triumph and the Acclaim both do.

How do you switch from serging to cover stitch?

Swap the cutting blade cover for the included sewing table, turn the upper looper positioning knob to Down and set the stitch width dial to its lowest setting. Then thread the chain looper and the needles for your stitch, using the chart in the manual.

Can I use binder attachments with overlock stitches?

The included table holds attachments for chain and cover stitching. Baby Lock's optional Compact Overlock Table lets you use them with overlock stitches too.
