The Husqvarna Viking Designer Epic 2 is a sewing and embroidery machine for sewists who want built-in dual feed, 9 mm stitches and large-hoop embroidery in one machine. It sews 840 stitches, embroiders more than 750 built-in designs in hoops up to 360 x 260 mm, and has an adjustable laser sewing guide. The Designer Epic 3 has since replaced it at the top of Husqvarna Viking's line.

Dual feed, laser guidance and large-hoop embroidery

• Even feeding, built in. Integrated Dual Feed (IDF) feeds fabric from the top and bottom at once, so quilt layers stay aligned, plaids match and silky fabrics don't pucker.
• Straight rows without marking. The adjustable laser guide projects a line on the fabric. Move it left or right to space rows of decorative stitching or quilting evenly.
• Wide, precise stitches. 840 stitches up to 9 mm wide, 37 needle positions and 6 sewing alphabets, including pop-up, sequin, appliqué, yarn and Laser Pictogram stitches.

Is the Designer Epic 2 right for you?

It's the best fit if you want built-in dual feed, 9 mm stitches and large-hoop embroidery, and don't need the Epic 3's projector, camera or 450 x 450 mm field.

Good to know before you buy: the Epic 2 is a previous model. It uses a laser line instead of a projector, and it doesn't scan the hoop, recognize presser feet, embroider on the free arm or have STITCH CREATOR for drawing your own stitches. The ribbon attachment, Majestic Hoop and CREATIVATE Library subscription cost extra. Its mechanical warranty is 1 year, against 3 years on the Epic 3.

Expert tip

"Only engage the IDF with a presser foot that has the cut-out at the back, like the feet marked 'for IDF System'. Raise the presser foot to its extra-high position, then press the IDF down until it engages. Disengage it before you switch to a foot without the cut-out. The IDF sensor warns you if the setting doesn't match the stitch you picked."
