The Husqvarna Viking Onyx 15 is a simple mechanical sewing machine for first-time sewists and anyone who mostly hems, mends and sews straight seams. You pick from 23 stitches with one dial, thread the needle with the built-in threader and drop the bobbin in from the top. There's no screen to learn.
Why buy from Imagine Sewing & Vacuum
- Authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer. Husqvarna Viking limits its warranty to machines bought from authorized dealers, so your Onyx 15 is covered by Husqvarna Viking's 10-year limited warranty.
- Sewing specialists since 1922. We've helped sewists and quilters choose the right machine for more than a century.
- Factory-trained technicians. The people who service Husqvarna Viking machines can help with threading, tension and buttonhole questions, before and after you buy.

Everyday sewing with dials you already understand
- One turn picks a stitch. All 23 stitches are printed on the dial: straight, zigzag, stretch, blind hem and decorative.
- Faster threading. The built-in needle threader pulls the thread through the needle eye, and a side cutter trims the tails.
- A bobbin you can see. The top drop-in bobbin sits under a clear cover, so you know when thread is running low.
- Light or heavy fabric. Adjustable presser foot pressure and an extra-lift foot position help with silky fabrics and thick layers.
- Bright work area. An LED light shines on the needle, and the machine sews up to about 750 stitches per minute.
- Seven feet included. Utility, satin, zipper, blind hem, overcast, buttonhole and non-stick glide feet cover zippers, hems and vinyl from day one.
- Free arm for sleeves. Slide off the accessory tray to sew cuffs and pant hems; slide it back for a larger work surface with storage inside.
Is the Onyx 15 right for you?
It's the best fit if you're new to sewing or want a dependable machine for mending, hemming and simple home projects.
Good to know before you buy: buttonholes are 4-step, so you turn the dial through four steps by hand. Stitch width is fixed for each stitch (up to 5 mm). There's no needle up/down button, speed slider, automatic thread cutter or quarter-inch piecing foot, and you control speed with the foot pedal only.
- Want one-step buttonholes and adjustable width? The Husqvarna Viking Onyx 25 adds both, plus 32 stitches and a quarter-inch piecing foot.
- Want a speed slider and needle up/down? The Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118 has both, with an automatic buttonhole foot.
- Want a screen, lettering and an automatic thread cutter? The computerized Husqvarna Viking Onyx 30 has more than 150 stitches and two fonts.
- Planning quilts and garments? The Husqvarna Viking Opal 650 has 160 stitches and 8 inches of sewing space.
Expert tip
"On the Onyx 15, a buttonhole takes four turns of the dial. Mark the length on your fabric first, and raise the needle out of the fabric each time you turn the dial. Sew a test on a scrap of the same fabric and interfacing. Turning the top tension down slightly usually gives a neater buttonhole."

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between the Onyx 15 and the Onyx 25?
Both are mechanical machines with a top drop-in bobbin, needle threader, LED light and free arm. The Onyx 25 adds a one-step buttonhole, adjustable stitch width up to 6 mm, 32 stitches instead of 23, and a quarter-inch piecing foot.
Is the Onyx 15 computerized?
No. You choose stitches and length with dials, and there's no screen. The Onyx 30 is the computerized model in the Onyx family.
Is the Onyx 15 good for beginners?
Yes. Dial stitch selection, a needle threader and a settings card keep it simple. The 4-step buttonhole takes a little practice.
Can I quilt with the Onyx 15?
You can piece small projects and do free-motion work, because the feed teeth drop. A quarter-inch foot isn't included, so the Onyx 25 suits quilters better.
Is there an extension table?
Not in the box. Husqvarna Viking sells an optional extension table for the Onyx 15 and 25.
