The Baby Lock Lyric is a computerized sewing and quilting machine for quilters who also sew garments, bags and home decor. It comes ready to quilt, with a walking foot, a 1/4" quilting foot and a large extension table in the box, plus 250 stitches, 8.3 inches of space to the right of the needle and a top speed of 850 stitches per minute.
Why buy from Imagine Sewing & Vacuum
- Authorized Baby Lock dealer. Only authorized retailers can issue Baby Lock warranties, so your Lyric is covered by Baby Lock's 25-year limited warranty.
- Sewing specialists since 1922. We've helped sewists and quilters choose the right machine for more than a century.
- Factory-trained technicians. The people who service Baby Lock machines can help with setup, walking foot and free-motion questions, before and after you buy.
- Free shipping on orders over $299. This machine qualifies.
Ready to piece, quilt and sew
- Quilting feet in the box. The walking foot feeds all the layers of a quilt sandwich together, the 1/4" quilting foot with guide keeps seams consistent, and the quilting foot handles free-motion work with the feed dogs dropped.
- Support for larger projects. The included 12-5/8" × 20-3/4" extension table carries the weight of a quilt as it moves through the 8.3 inches of space.
- Both hands stay on the fabric. The knee lift raises the presser foot, and programmable needle up/down stops the needle in the fabric so you can pivot without losing your place.
- Speed you control. Sew up to 850 stitches per minute, or slide the speed control lower for careful work. The slider can also be set to adjust stitch width.
- Quick to set up. Press a lever to thread the needle, then drop a bobbin into the Quick-Set top-loading bobbin case and start sewing.
- Clean finishes. The automatic thread cutter trims your threads at the touch of a button, and the reinforcement key ties off the end of a seam.
- 250 stitches for everything else. 99 utility stitches with 10 one-step buttonhole styles, plus decorative, satin and cross stitches and 5 alphabets, all up to 7 mm wide. You can save your settings for each utility stitch and combine decorative stitches.
Is the Lyric right for you?
It's the best fit if you piece and quilt, also sew garments and home decor, and want a walking foot and extension table included instead of buying them later.
Good to know before you buy: with 8.3 inches of space to the right of the needle, a large quilt takes more rolling than on a 12-inch machine. The Lyric doesn't have the Soprano's Automatic Fabric Sensor System or pivot feature, and it doesn't embroider. Open-toe and echo free-motion feet, a straight stitch needle plate and a large-spool thread stand are sold separately.
- Want fabric sensing, a pivot feature and three free-motion feet? The Baby Lock Soprano adds them, plus 50 more stitches, with the same 8.3 inches of space.
- Quilting queen- and king-size quilts? The Baby Lock Allegro has 12 inches of space and 200 stitches, but its walking foot and extension table are sold separately. The Baby Lock Jazz II also has 12 inches, with 28 stitches chosen by dial.
- Want to spend less? The Baby Lock Presto 2 has 100 stitches, the same 8.3 inches of space and an automatic thread cutter, but no knee lift.
- Ready for a color touch screen? The Baby Lock Ballad has 771 stitches, 11.25 inches of space and a 7-inch color touch screen.
Expert tip
"Before you quilt, set the needle to stop in the down position in the settings. When you pause to adjust the quilt, the needle holds your place and the knee lift raises the foot, so both hands stay on the fabric. For straight-line quilting, put on the walking foot and keep the speed slider at a slow to medium setting so the layers feed evenly."
