Genuine Miele Type GN HyClean Air FilterBags fit Miele Classic C1, Complete C2 and Complete C3 canister vacuums, plus the S8, S5 and S2 series. Each box holds four self-sealing bags, a new motor protection filter and a new flat exhaust filter, so you can refresh both small filters each time you open a box.

Not for the Guard M1 or Guard L1. The Guard M1 uses Type CO bags and the Guard L1 uses Type TU bags. Compact C1, Compact C2 and Complete C1 vacuums use Type FJM bags.

The flat AirClean filter replaces the standard exhaust filter in models such as the Classic C1 Turbo Team and Pure Suction. If your vacuum has a cartridge exhaust filter, such as the Active AirClean filter in the Classic C1 Cat & Dog or the HEPA filter in the Complete C3, keep using it and set the flat filter aside. Use only one exhaust filter at a time.

When to change the bag and filters

• Bag: change it when the bag-change indicator turns red. Miele rates a HyClean bag at about three months in an average home.
• Motor protection and flat exhaust filters: swap in the new ones from each box when you start the first bag.
• Cartridge exhaust filter: Miele says to change it once a year. The Classic C1 takes the 30-series SF-HA 30 HEPA AirClean. The Complete C2 and C3 take the 50-series SF-HA 50 HEPA AirClean.

"Swap the motor protection filter every time you open a new box. It's the small filter behind the bag, and a dirty one costs you suction even when the bag is empty. With pets, check the bag every few weeks, because hair can fill it before the indicator turns red."

Will GN bags fit a Guard M1 or Guard L1?

No. The Guard M1 takes Type CO bags and the Guard L1 takes Type TU bags. A GN bag won't lock into either holder.

Can a Classic C1 use the GN Performance Pack?

The bags fit, but the SF-HA 50 filter in that pack doesn't. The Classic C1 takes the 30-series filters, so pair these 4-packs with an SF-HA 30 HEPA or SF-AA 30 Active AirClean filter.

How often should I change the bag?

When the indicator turns red. Miele rates a HyClean bag at about three months in an average home, and homes with pets or lots of carpet go through bags faster.
