Genuine Miele Type TU HyClean Air FilterBags fit every Miele Guard L1 canister vacuum, including the Guard L1 Cat & Dog, AllFloor and Electro. Each box holds four self-sealing bags and a flat AirClean exhaust filter. Miele rates the average bag at about three months of use, so one box covers roughly a year of typical cleaning.

The flat AirClean filter is for Guard vacuums fitted with Miele's AirClean filter grille. The Guard L1 Cat & Dog, AllFloor and Electro come with a 50-series cartridge filter instead, so owners of those models can set the flat filter aside and keep using their SF-AA 50 Active AirClean, AirClean Plus or SF-HA 50 HEPA AirClean filter. Use only one exhaust filter at a time.

When to change the bag and filter

• Bag: change it when the bag-change indicator lights up. To check it, run the vacuum on the highest setting with the floorhead lifted off the floor.
• Pet homes: hair and lint can pack a bag full before the indicator reacts, so check the bag more often.
• Exhaust filter: replace it about once a year, or when the filter indicator lights up after roughly 50 hours of use.
• Motor protection filter: the Guard L1's lifetime motor protection filter doesn't need replacing.

"With pets in the house, don't wait for the indicator light. Hair fills a bag tight before the light comes on, and an overfull bag means weaker suction at the brush. Check it every few weeks. If pet odor bothers you, switch the exhaust filter to the Active AirClean 50."

Will these bags fit a Miele Guard M1?

No. The Guard M1 uses Type CO bags. The names are similar, but the bag holders are shaped differently, and a TU bag won't lock into an M1.

Are HyClean Air and HyClean Pure TU bags the same?

Miele sells TU bags in the US under the HyClean Air name. Outside the US, the TU bag is sold as HyClean Pure. Both fit the same Guard L1 and Guard S1 vacuums.

How often should I change the bag?

Miele estimates about three months for an average household, but the bag-change indicator is the best guide. Homes with pets or heavy carpet use should check the bag more often.

Do I need to buy a filter too?

If your Guard L1 has a 50-series cartridge filter (the Cat & Dog, AllFloor and Electro do), plan to replace that filter about once a year. The flat AirClean filter in this box only fits vacuums fitted with Miele's AirClean filter grille.

Which exhaust filter goes with TU bags?

Guard L1 vacuums take the "50" series filters. Choose the SF-HA 50 HEPA AirClean for dust allergies or the SF-AA 50 Active AirClean to control pet and cooking odors. The "30" series filters don't fit the Guard L1.

Will generic bags void my Miele warranty?

Miele's warranty doesn't cover faults or damage caused by non-Miele bags and accessories. Genuine bags also fit the holder exactly, which protects suction and keeps dust away from the motor.
