Miele SF-AA 30-1 Active AirClean Filter for Classic C1, Complete C1 and Dynamic U1

The genuine Miele SF-AA 30-1 Active AirClean filter is the activated-charcoal exhaust filter for Miele's 30-series vacuums: the Classic C1, the Complete C1 and the Dynamic U1 upright. Miele designed it to filter unpleasant odors and calls it ideal for homes with pets or smokers. Each box holds one filter, and Miele recommends a new one about once a year.

Fits these Miele vacuums

• Miele Classic C1 Cat & Dog, Classic C1 Turbo Team, Classic C1 Pure Suction and other Classic C1 models
• Miele Complete C1
• Miele Dynamic U1 upright

Not for the Guard L1, Guard M1, Complete C2 or Complete C3. Those vacuums take the larger 50-series frame, so order the SF-AA 50-1 Active AirClean instead. A 30 won't fit a Guard, and a 50 won't fit a Classic C1.

30 or 50? Go by the model name, not the bag. Classic C1, Complete C1 and Dynamic U1 take the 30. Guard, Complete C2, Complete C3 and Compact models take the 50. Bags don't settle it, because GN bags fit both the Classic C1 and the Complete C3. On the filter itself, the 30 has three tabs along the top and a small arrow tab in one bottom corner. Still unsure? What it does

• Tackles odors. Activated charcoal filters unpleasant odors out of the exhaust air, and Miele says it also neutralizes them, which makes it a fit for pet owners.
• Seals in the dust. Miele says the filter safely seals in the dust while it works on smells.
• Need HEPA instead? For dust-sensitive households, the SF-HA 30-1 HEPA AirClean fits the same slot. Use one or the other, not both.

This version has no TimeStrip change indicator. Miele's earlier SF-AA 30 with TimeStrip lists the same vacuums.

How to install it

These are Miele's steps for the Classic C1:

• Open the dust compartment lid.
• If a flat AirClean filter is fitted, remove the filter grille completely before you install the Active AirClean filter. Keep the grille: you'll need it to go back to a flat filter.
• Lift the old exhaust filter out, insert the new one so it seats properly, and press it down into position. Use only one exhaust filter at a time.

When to replace it

• About once a year: Miele says to change the Active AirClean 30 after about 50 operating hours, roughly a year of average use. Suction and filtration drop if you run it longer.
• Set a reminder: on Classic C1 models that support it, scan the QR code on the filter box and enter the start date in the Miele app.

Bags for 30-series vacuums: Type GN for the Classic C1, Type FJM for the Complete C1 and Type U for the Dynamic U1.

Expert tip

"Charcoal works quietly, so you notice it most when it stops. If pet smell starts coming out of the exhaust before the year is up, change the filter early. Since this version has no TimeStrip, write the install date on the box flap and keep it with your bags."

Will the SF-AA 30-1 fit my Guard L1 or Guard M1?

No. Guard vacuums take 50-series filters. Order the SF-AA 50-1 instead.

Does it fit the Complete C3?

No. Only the Complete C1 takes the 30. The Complete C2 and C3 take the SF-AA 50-1.

What does "No TimeStrip" mean?

Miele's earlier SF-AA 30 (part 9616080) carried a TimeStrip filter change indicator. The SF-AA 30-1 doesn't have one. Miele lists the same vacuums and the same once-a-year interval for both.
