Miele SF-HA 50-1 HEPA AirClean Filter for Guard L1, M1 and Complete C3

The genuine Miele SF-HA 50-1 HEPA AirClean filter is the exhaust filter for Miele's 50-series vacuums: the Guard L1, M1 and S1, the Complete C2 and C3, and the Compact C1 and C2. Miele rates it HEPA class 13 and says it safely traps fine dust and allergens. Each box holds one filter, and Miele recommends a new one about once a year.

Not for the Classic C1, Complete C1 or Dynamic U1. Those vacuums take the smaller 30-series frame, so order the SF-HA 30-1 HEPA AirClean instead. A 50 won't fit a 30-series vacuum, and a 30 won't fit a Guard.

30 or 50? Go by the model name, not the bag. Guard, Complete C2, Complete C3 and Compact models take the 50. Classic C1, Complete C1 and Dynamic U1 take the 30. Bags don't settle it, because GN bags fit both the Classic C1 and the Complete C3. On the filter itself, the 50 has four tabs along the top, a tab at each end and a wide gray pull tab centered on the bottom edge. Still unsure? Send us your model and we'll confirm the fit.

What it does

• HEPA filtration. Miele rates the SF-HA 50-1 as HEPA class 13 under DIN EN 1822 and says it catches 99.95% of particles in the exhaust air.
• Made for dust-sensitive homes. Miele says it filters even fine dust and allergens and calls it ideal for people with house dust allergies.
• Odor is a different job. For pet or cooking smells, the SF-AA 50-1 Active AirClean uses activated charcoal and fits the same slot.

What's in the box

This version has no TimeStrip change indicator. Miele's earlier SF-HA 50 with TimeStrip lists the same vacuums.

When to replace it

• About once a year: Miele says to change 50-series exhaust filters after about 50 operating hours, roughly a year of average use.
• Guard L1: change it when the exhaust filter indicator lights up, check the motor protection filter at the same time, then hold the + foot switch for 3 seconds to reset the light.
• To install: open the dust compartment lid, pull the old filter forward and lift it out. Set the new one in, then press it backward on both sides until it clicks. Use only one exhaust filter at a time.

Bags for 50-series vacuums: Type TU for the Guard L1 and S1, Type CO for the Guard M1 and Type GN for the Complete C2 and C3. The GN Performance Pack includes an HA 50 HEPA filter.

Expert tip

"If you're upgrading from the flat AirClean filter that comes in each box of bags, take the filter grille out first and keep it in a drawer. You'll need it again if you ever go back to the flat filter. Never stack two exhaust filters, either. One is all the vacuum is built for."

Will the SF-HA 50-1 fit my Classic C1?

No. The Classic C1 takes the 30-series frame. Order the SF-HA 30-1 instead.

Does it fit the Guard L1?

Yes. Every Guard L1 takes 50-series exhaust filters, and the SF-HA 50-1 is listed in the Guard L1 manual.

What does "No TimeStrip" mean?

Miele's earlier SF-HA 50 (part 9616280) carried a TimeStrip filter change indicator. The SF-HA 50-1 doesn't have one. Miele lists the same vacuums and the same once-a-year interval for both.
