The Baby Lock Jazz II gives quilters 12 inches of space to the right of the needle, so a large quilt has room to bunch and turn as you stitch. It sews up to 1,000 stitches per minute for long straight-line quilting, drops its feed dogs for free-motion work, and still handles everyday piecing, hemming and mending with 28 built-in stitches.

Why buy from Imagine Sewing & Vacuum

  • Authorized Baby Lock dealer. Only authorized retailers can issue Baby Lock warranties, so your Jazz II is covered by Baby Lock's 25-year limited warranty.
  • Sewing specialists since 1922. We've helped sewists and quilters choose the right machine for more than a century.
  • Factory-trained technicians. The people who service Baby Lock machines can help with setup, tension and free-motion questions, before and after you buy.
  • Free shipping on orders over $299. This machine qualifies.

Made for quilting

  • Room for big quilts. 12 inches of space to the right of the needle gives a rolled quilt room to move, so you fight the fabric less on queen- and king-size projects.
  • Fast straight-line quilting. Up to 1,000 stitches per minute moves you quickly through long seams, grids and stitch-in-the-ditch.
  • Ready for free-motion. Drop the feed dogs, screw on the included darning and free-motion foot, and guide the quilt in any direction.
  • Both hands stay on the quilt. The knee lifter raises the presser foot hands-free, and the programmable needle up/down button stops the needle down so you can pivot without the quilt shifting.
  • Accurate quarter-inch seams. 24 needle positions and the included 1/4" quilting foot help you piece blocks that line up.
  • Bright, even light. Six LED lights brighten the needle area and the whole work surface.
  • Everyday sewing too. 28 stitches include a one-step buttonhole, stretch stitches, blind hem and overcasting, with stitches up to 7 mm wide.
  • Steady at full speed. At 27.5 pounds, the Jazz II stays planted on the table while you sew.

Is the Jazz II right for you?

It's the best fit if you mainly quilt and want a large work space without paying for a computerized machine. It's also a popular second machine dedicated to quilting.

Good to know before you buy: the Jazz II selects stitches with a dial instead of a screen. It controls speed with the foot pedal only and has a manual side thread cutter. It has no LCD screen, speed slider, automatic thread cutter or stitch regulation.

  • Want the same 12-inch space with a screen and automatic thread cutter? Choose the Baby Lock Allegro, which has 200 stitches, including lettering.
  • Want speed control and an automatic cutter at a similar price? The Baby Lock Presto 2 offers 100 stitches and both features, with 8.3 inches of work space.
  • Sewing more garments and decorative projects than quilts? The Baby Lock Brilliant has 190 stitches and an automatic cutter.
  • Need something portable for classes? The Baby Lock Jubilant weighs 14.4 pounds.

Expert tip

"Most free-motion tension problems come down to threading. Thread the Jazz II with the presser foot up so the thread seats between the tension discs, and use the same weight of thread on top and in the bobbin. Then add the extension table. A flat, wide surface carries the weight of the quilt, so it moves evenly and your stitches stay consistent."

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the Baby Lock Jazz and the Jazz II?

Both have 12 inches of space, 28 stitches and a top speed of 1,000 stitches per minute. The Jazz II adds programmable needle up/down and a needle stop position button, which make pivoting and free-motion quilting easier. The original Jazz is discontinued.

Is the Jazz II computerized?

No. It's an electronic machine: you choose stitches with a dial, and buttons control the needle position. There's no screen to learn, which many quilters prefer.

Does the Jazz II have speed control or an automatic thread cutter?

No. You control speed with the foot pedal and trim threads with the side cutter. If you want both features, look at the Baby Lock Allegro or Presto 2.

Is the Jazz II high shank or low shank?

Low shank. Baby Lock's low-shank feet fit, including the BLG-WF walking foot and the BL-FMO open-toe free-motion foot.

Does it have stitch regulation?

No. In free-motion quilting, stitch length depends on how fast you move the quilt compared with the machine's speed. Practicing on a scrap sandwich helps you find a steady rhythm.

Can I use the Jazz II on a quilting frame?

Yes. It's often paired with hand-guided frames such as Grace's Q-Zone and Cutie frames. Check your frame maker's compatibility list, or ask us before you order.
