Baby Lock Vibrant 4/3/2 Thread Serger

The Baby Lock Vibrant is a 4/3/2-thread serger for sewists who want clean, ready-to-wear seam finishes without a big investment. Color-coded thread paths and lay-in tension discs make it an approachable first serger, and differential feed helps knits and slippery fabrics feed flat or gather on purpose.
Why buy from Imagine Sewing & Vacuum
- Authorized Baby Lock dealer. Only authorized retailers can issue Baby Lock warranties, so your Vibrant is covered by Baby Lock's 25-year limited warranty.
- Sewing specialists since 1922. We've helped sewists and garment makers choose the right machine for more than a century.
- Factory-trained technicians. The people who service Baby Lock machines can help with threading, tension and rolled hem questions, before and after you buy.
- Free shipping on orders over $299. This machine qualifies.
A simple way to start serging
- Several finishes from one machine. Sew 4-thread seams, 3-thread wide or narrow overlock, a narrow rolled hem, flatlock and blind hem. The included converter adds 2-thread stitches.
- Threading you can follow. Each thread path is color-coded, so you match the colors and thread the loopers and needles in order.
- Tension you can see. Threads lay into tension discs, and numbered dials let you balance the stitch.
- Flat seams on tricky fabrics. Differential feed adjusts from 0.7 to 2.0. Set it above 1 to keep knits from stretching out, below 1 to stop lightweight fabric from puckering, or at 2.0 to gather ruffles.
- Rolled hems without extra parts. Remove the stitch finger and turn the stitch length dial to R for a narrow rolled hem on lightweight fabric. A P setting makes picot edges.
- Less cleanup. A lint tray catches trimmings as you sew, and a retractable thread cutter pops up with a push of a lever. The presser foot snaps on and off.
Is the Vibrant right for you?
It's the best fit if you're buying your first serger, you mostly finish seams on garments and home décor, and you're happy to thread by hand to keep the price down.
Good to know before you buy: the Vibrant threads by hand through color-coded guides. It has no air threading, Baby Lock doesn't list a built-in needle threader, and you set the tensions yourself. It doesn't sew cover stitch or chain stitch. Baby Lock's manual gives a top speed of about 1,200 stitches per minute, compared with 1,500 on the Celebrate and Victory.
- Want the loopers threaded for you? The Baby Lock Celebrate uses Jet-Air Threading, which sends thread through both loopers with one lever, and adds a built-in needle threader.
- Rather not adjust tension at all? The Baby Lock Victory pairs Jet-Air Threading with Automatic Thread Delivery, so you choose a stitch and serge.
- Want cover-stitched hems on knits? A serger can't sew them. The Baby Lock Euphoria is a dedicated cover stitch machine.
Expert tip
"Most Vibrant threading trouble comes down to order. Thread the lower looper first, then the upper looper, then the needles, with the presser foot raised so each thread drops into its tension disc. If the lower looper thread breaks, pull the needle threads out of the needle eyes before you rethread it, then thread the needles again."

Frequently asked questions
Is the Baby Lock Vibrant good for beginners?
Yes. Baby Lock positions it as an introduction to serging, and the color-coded paths show where each thread goes. The trade-off is that you thread every looper and needle by hand.
Does the Vibrant have air threading?
No. It uses manual, color-coded threading. The Celebrate and Victory use Baby Lock's Jet-Air Threading for the loopers.
What's the difference between the Vibrant and the Celebrate?
The Celebrate adds Jet-Air Threading, a built-in needle threader, 1,500 stitches per minute and a presser foot that lifts up to 6 mm for thick fabric. Both have manual tensions and differential feed.
Can the Vibrant sew a rolled hem?
Yes. Thread for a 3-thread narrow stitch, remove the stitch finger and set the stitch length dial to R. It suits lightweight fabrics such as georgette and silk.
What needles does the Vibrant use?
Baby Lock's manual specifies HAx1SP needles, also sold as 130/705H. A needle set comes in the box.
