Miele rates a HyClean bag at about three months of use in an average home, so the bags can last several years of typical cleaning.

The HEPA filter replaces the cartridge exhaust filter in your Guard M1, such as the Active AirClean filter that comes with the Guard M1 Cat & Dog. Use only one exhaust filter at a time. If pet odor matters more to you than fine dust, keep the SF-AA 50 Active AirClean instead.

When to change the bags and filter

• Bag: change it when the bag-change indicator turns red.
• Pet homes: hair and carpet lint can pack a bag full before the indicator reacts, so check the bag more often.
• HEPA filter: Miele says to change it once a year. The Guard M1 has no filter-change light, so note the date when you install it.

Need fewer bags? The CO HyClean 4-pack includes 4 bags and a flat AirClean filter. A spare SF-HA 50 HEPA AirClean filter is also sold on its own.

Expert tip

"Put the HEPA filter in the day you open the pack and write the date on it. Without a filter light on the M1, that date is your reminder. With pets, check the bag every few weeks, because hair fills it tight before the indicator turns red."

Will this pack fit a Guard L1?

No. The Guard L1 uses Type TU bags, and a CO bag won't lock into an L1. Guard L1 owners should choose the TU Performance Pack.

Is the HEPA filter the same as the SF-HA 50?

Yes. It's Miele's 50-series HEPA AirClean filter, the same one sold separately as the SF-HA 50, and it fits every Guard M1.

How long will 16 bags last?

Miele rates a HyClean bag at about three months in an average home. Homes with pets or heavy carpet use go through bags faster, so let the indicator be your guide.

Can I keep my Active AirClean odor filter instead?

Yes. Use either the HEPA filter or the Active AirClean filter, not both. You can store the HEPA filter as the next replacement for when the odor filter is due.
